Borgonovo Pohl
El Salvador
Producing speciality coffee in the heart of El Salvador with a commitment to sustainability and quality.
A Brief History of Borgonovo Pohl
Mauricio Borgonovo arrived in El Salvador from Monza, Italy in the early 1900s, travelling 10,000 kilometres. After years there, he began working in a coffee mill, later also at a pharmacy during the off-season. In 1971, he purchased the San Carlos Estate, starting the Borgonovo family's business journey. Borgonovo Pohl, S.A. de C.V., now a third-generation family business, specializes in processing and exporting high-quality coffee from El Salvador.
With over 50 years of experience, the new generation maintains traditions of quality, social responsibility, and environmental sustainability. Their Bourbon and Pacas coffee trees, thriving in volcanic soil above 1,500 meters, produce a balanced cup with sweet body and acidity.
The estate emphasizes on its social responsibility, continuously making sure that they contribute to the development of the surrounding communities. They ensure that schools in the region have the necessary hardware to help nurture the growth of the next generation. Focusing on a modular form of teaching by specialized professors, students can get individual tracking for their academic progress. Furthermore, they collaborate with multiple companies to provide the community with ecological stoves and multipurpose gymnasiums.
Borgonovo Pohl currently produces about 45,000 60 kg bags of green coffee annually, featuring offerings like Dante (Specialty Preparation), San Carlos Estate Coffee, and Victory Mountain.
